A Christmas Meditation on Galatians 4:4-5

These Bible verses, Galatians 4:4-5, have come to my attention several times this season both in anticipation of Christmas and for proclaiming the good news about salvation through faith in Jesus Christ.  I enjoyed studying them more closely for myself, and wanted to share some additional Bible verses to encourage your heart with the gospel truth.  Merry Christmas! 

When the Fullness of the Time Came

A Christmas Meditation on Galatians 4:4-5

But when the fullness of the time came, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law, so that He might redeem those who were under the Law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.” – Galatians 4:4-5

But when the fullness of the time came,

  • Genesis 1:1 – “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.”
  • John 1:1 – “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”
  • Genesis 3:15 – “And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed; He shall bruise you on the head, and you shall bruise Him on the heel.”
  • Matthew 1:1 – “The record of the genealogy of Jesus the Messiah, the son of David, the son of Abraham.”
  • Matthew 4:17 – From that time Jesus began to preach and say, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”

God sent forth His Son,

  • Matthew 3:17 – And behold, a voice out of the heavens said, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well-pleased.”
  • Matthew 17:5 – While he was still speaking, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and behold, a voice out of the cloud said, “This is My beloved Son, with whom I am well-pleased; listen to Him!”
  • John 3:16 – “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.”

born of a woman,

  • Isaiah 7:14 – “Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, a virgin will be with child and bear a son, and she will call His name Immanuel.”
  • Matthew 1:24-25 – “And Joseph awoke from his sleep and did as the angel of the Lord commanded him, and took Mary as his wife, but kept her a virgin until she gave birth to a Son; and he called His name Jesus.”
  • Luke 1:26-56

born under the Law,

  • Matthew 5:17 – Jesus said, “Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish but to fulfill.”
  • Luke 23:14 – Pilate said to them, “You brought this man to me as one who incites the people to rebellion, and behold, having examined Him before you, I have found no guilt in this man regarding the charges which you make against Him.”
  • 1 Peter 2:22 – “who committed no sin, nor was any deceit found in His mouth.”

so that He might redeem those who were under the Law,

  • Ephesians 1:7 – “In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace.”
  • 1 Peter 1:18 – “knowing that you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers, but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ.”

that we might receive the adoption as sons.”

  • Ephesians 1:5 – “He predestined us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the kind intention of His will.”
  • Titus 3:7 – “so that being justified by His grace we would be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.”
